IT Professionals Get Fast-Track Work Permits

Information Technology and fundamentally the tech sectors are important for the Canadian government. There is a high demand for individuals in the IT field and the Canadian Government has quickened the processing time of work permits.

Under the Global Talent Stream, Canadian employers who are hiring tech talent can secure a work permit within two weeks from the time of applications submitted. However, employers who want to hire IT professionals may be allowed for an accelerated Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). They have to make sure that foreign arrival will not affect the local workers which include Software Engineers, Programmers, Developers, Information System Analysts, Consultants, and Computer managers.

Canada-United States- Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) professionals and Intra-Company Transferees do not require LMIA and employers can bring them much faster to work for them. IT professionals usually coming in for work permits, must be employed with a company abroad for at least one year and there must be a qualifying relationship between the two companies being a subsidiary, affiliate, parent, or branch.
